We have noticed that when trying to create a view layer from a hosted feature service containing many features (~700,000), the page becomes very slow and often completely unresponsive. Has anyone else experienced the same or come up with a solution?

Hi there,

A few questions to help us diagnose this..

  • Is the behavior consistent? Are there times it works and other time it does not?
  • Is it always the same dataset or varying services that see this behavior?
  • Do these services in question have a large schema (i.e. a lot of fields)? Attachments?

Thanks!

Hi @sarah_maisel ,

In answer to your questions:

- yes the behaviour appears to be consistent, and has been experienced by multiple users

- so far this appears related to one hosted feature layer (described below)

- the service contains ~700,000 features, contains 3 sublayers and a related table, the sublayers have anywhere between 69 and 187 fields, and the feature service does have attachments.

Thanks

Hi

Were you able to resolve this issue?  We're having similar problems - and our layer has about 400K records less than yours....

Thanks

Mary

The performance of this has certainly improved (for us at least) since I originally posted this. One thing that helped on occasion when we were having issues was to zoom the map in the right-hand pane in to a small area so that it wasn't trying to symbolise lots of features. However I still find the view layer creation process to be a bit buggy and unreliable.
