Connecting to ArcGIS Online Items in Tableau

Hi all,

There is no Tableau Esri community spot to post (moderators - can we create one?) so I hope posting here makes sense. I am a long time Esri user and I am a first time Tableau user. I also realize this might be a better question for the Tableau community and I have responded to a question there but haven't heard anything. I think perhaps their user community isn't as active? Or they aren't connecting to Esri that often? I don't know. But there have to be some Esri users out there who are using Tableau and could help? Here's hoping.

I'm trying to connect to My Content hosted feature layer items (points and polygons) from Tableau desktop. This should be easy -

https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/examples_esri.htm (ArcGIS Online using OAuth authentication)

But when I connect I only see some layers and not all of them. I can't figure out the pattern of what I can see and what I can't. There is nothing obvious - no sharing issues, or differences in geometry, or coordinate system. I've done lots of tests. If I share an item to Public and connect to the full URL in Tableau, then I can see. But I'm trying to connect to data that isn't shared Publicly. If I create a new item using AGOL - then I can see it in Tableau. But if I publish from ArcGIS Pro to AGOL - I can't see it in Tableau. But I don't think I've done enough testing to make sure that is consistent.

Has anyone worked with this or have experience with this issue? I would really appreciate the help.

Thank you!

A
