I have been asked to move my services to a new IP address / box  and have several web maps that have been distributed via e-mail links to non GIS users in our non profit. Is there a way for me to point the shared Arc GIS online resource to the new service on the new box?

Layer packages have an update button but not if they originate in a Arc GIS server service. I don't want to break all the web maps.

You cannot update map service URLs. However, you can update your Web maps with new services.

For your services, you will want to remove the items and add new ones that point to your new server location. Remember to share the services with everyone or at least members of groups who will be accessing to your Web maps.

Now, you can update your Web maps with these new services. To modify your existing maps with your new services, open your Web map, remove the old layers, and add new ones and save your changes. When you make changes to an existing Web map, you have the option to Save As (which creates a new Web map) or Save (which saves the latest changes to the existing map). In your case, you want to Save.

I am faced with a similar situation and have re-sourced all of the map layers to the new server and there are working properly. The web maps are still referencing the old services and I have not found a way to update them without rebuilding the web map. Has a method for being able to refresh/restart the web maps so that they will referencing the new services (they are named exactly the same and stored in the exact same location) been developed?  There are a lot of layers with customized pop ups and I am trying to avoid having to recreate all of the pop ups. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to efficiently resource the web map?

Thank you in advanced for any assistance you can provide.

Here are some admin tools, one of which can update the URL.

https://github.com/Esri/ago-admin-wiki/wiki/Tools

Specifically, the ArcGIS Online assistant.

https://ago-assistant.esri.com/

Sign in then choose "I want to"

Note these tools are unsupported. Make a copy of a map (doing a save as) and try it out.

All,

poster1paint-216x300.pngOn January 12th, we are releasing "Admin Tools for ArcGIS Online" on the Marketplace that will take care of this and many more administrative functions that you're probably looking for. This product grew from an internal toolbox that we use on a regular basis inside of GEO-Jobe to administer the organization accounts of our clients. We had the need to register lots of feature services, tag multiple items at once, change the ownership of several groups at one time, among other tasks that just aren’t that easy to pull off using the out of the box interface. Read more about it here for now www.mapthis.net . Check it out on Jan 12th and please give us feedback. We'll have a direct link in the bottom of the app where you can submit functionality enhancements.
