Autocad and ArcGIS Online

I would like to create online maps for our offices and use the Sharepoint webpart to display them on our intranet.

  • I've used the ArcGIS for Autocad plugin to draw the plans on top of a basemap (to gain the coordinate system).

  • Then I start a new map in ArcInfo and assign the same coordinate system, and import the Autocad File.

  • I create features from the Autocad polylines and polygons, add a few fields to the attribute table, and then create a shapefile from the features. So far so good.

  • Then I ZIP the shp, shx, dbf and prj files and upload them to My Content online.

Now the problem.  The ZIP files do not want to overlay on the basemap.  On top of that, I cannot zoom in close enough through ArcGIS online to make this useful.
Attached is the zip file.

I've tried using KML/KMZ instead, but I'm running into the bug that others have mentioned.

Thanks for any help.

It seems like there is a problem with this shapefile. When I unzip it, it doesn't display properly in ArcGIS Desktop either. Does it display properly for you? I can only see about 5 of the 60 or so polygons in it. I'm not sure what's going on.

The scale seems to go down to 1:25. Our basemaps will not have that level of detail because they are world basemaps. Depending on the basemap, we go down to 1:5000, and the most I've ever seen for specific areas is 1:1000.   Here's an image that shows our Streets basemap coverage.

Thanks,

Mike: Thank you for your prompt and thorough response!  I will recreate those shapefiles to ascertain where the error is.

A larger question:  is it possible to use my own basemap?  Or no basemap?

It is possible to use your own basemap for certain layer types, but not currently for shapefiles. This is really an oversight on our part and I've written up an enhancement to fix it.

Thanks,
