I am unable to use a custom image option for a point symbol in an ArcGIS Online web map. I have tried using an image hosted on both Dropbox and Flikr; I continue to receive an error that says "Unable to Load Image" (see attached screenshot). Any suggestions. This feature worked prior to the most recent update to ArcGIS Online.
Kyle
Update: This feature works with an image hosted on ArcGIS Online but not elsewhere.
Gen,
Your Link has to have the photo extension in it. For Flickr, look at this:
https://c2.staticflickr.com/5/4005/5136332209_3f2dfcae5f_b.jpg
Do you see where it has the .jpg in the link? That is what needs to happen in order to display your photos.
Gen, on your picture, click on the download arrow and click on View All Sizes.
All sizes | one leaf | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Here is where you can grab the links for any size you want (right click on the image and copy image URL - is how I do it in Chrome).
Does this help?
then right click on photo
As mentioned earlier, you can actually host images in ArcGIS Online. Simply upload your file to My Content. You must share the image with everyone to make it visible.
For example, here's an image I found in AGOL.
http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=28570c2d33604695b1d90f60660a4d25
To specify the URL to the actual image,
http://www.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/content/items/28570c2d33604695b1d90f60660a4d25/data
This URL is available on the item details page, in the right margin, under "URL"
This image will work as a symbol in the map viewer. Strangely, this image URL is not working in many story maps apps...this appears to be a bug that we'll need to fix.
Note that storing images in AGOL does consume credits as"tile and data storage" as described here for customers in the USA: http://www.arcgis.com/features/plans/credits.html .
Thanks,
Mike
Mike,
I would think that this could be a great solution for some small projects or for organizations with lots of credits. Though, I would prefer using a service like Flickr simply because I am scared of using too many credits!
For the record, the person I was responding to in the earlier posts removed her posts - which is why these posts look kind of disjointed...
