ArcGIS Blog RSS Feed Incompatible

Hello!

We like to keep up with ArcGIS Blogs here using the RSS feed. In fact, it's the best indicator of major product updates and we like to keep informed both for new features but to be prepared for changes.

For months I've been using a Microsoft Power Automate flow, which will ping the RSS feed: https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/feed/?post_type=blog

For the last month it is failing! Did Esri change something? Encoding of characters is extremely important and it looks like something isn't formatted right? Can Esri team please look into this? Your RSS is virtually down for us until this encoding issues is fixed. Again, this worked perfectly fine for the last few months.

Failed to read requested Feed information. Details: 'og' is an undeclared prefix. Line 42, position 4.
clientRequestId: 76c46781-775f-46c8-bd50-418f6902e829

Here is the standard RSS connector that works with every well-defined RSS and is used by millions of people. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/connectors/rss/

@AnthonyJonesRSK , Thank you for your patience while I work with the support team on this.

Quick update and further request on this.

Support team came back and mentioned that this could be due to several possible reasons:

  • Feed Accessibility or Permissions: If the blog or section you're trying to access is behind authentication , RSS requests may be blocked for unauthenticated or automated sources.
  • Rate Limiting or IP Blocking: If Power Automate or any integration attempts to connect too frequently, some web servers will temporarily block incoming requests as a security measure.
  • Changes on the Source Site: Sometimes, the RSS feed structure or access policy may be updated by the site owner, which could lead to previously working automations breaking.

Are you able to provide me any screenshots, recordings, or error messages so we can research this further. Thanks,

Simi

Hi @SimiBasu,

Thanks for coming back to me again. So I'm getting this error message below.

AnthonyJonesRSK_0-1762338106955.png

And then within the error outputs it's giving this error. Note I removed the client request ID as I wasn't sure if this related to me or the RSS feed but I can provide that if needed.

{
"status": 403,
"message": "The underlying RSS server forbids incoming requests.\r\nclientRequestId: ********************",
"error": {
"message": "The underlying RSS server forbids incoming requests."
},
"source": "rss-uks.azconn-uks-002.p.azurewebsites.net"
}

I did test my flow on an old run from 17th October and that still works so something appears to have broken it since.

Thanks, Anthony

I am getting same error in Power Automate:
{
        "status"403,
        "message""The underlying RSS server forbids incoming requests.\r\nclientRequestId: **************************",
        "error": {
            "message""The underlying RSS server forbids incoming requests."
        },
        "source""rss-ae.azconn-ae-001.p.azurewebsites.net"
    }

I have similar flow in n8n and I am getting a 403 error too.

@AndresEcheverri, thanks for your response. It's good to know that this isn't just a me issue!

I have this error too: The underlying RSS server forbids incoming requests.

I'll log a call with ESRIUK.

@SarahNoakes1 @AnthonyJonesRSK

After reviewing it with internal teams, I found that this was probably due to the Akamai change made on our side to restrict unwanted traffic. Team has made some changes, can you please check now and confirm if the issue has been resolved?

Hi @SimiBasu, can also confirm that this appears to be working again now. Thanks to you and the team for looking into it. Cheers

Hi @SimiBasu - I have an entry in my feed from Friday - the first since October 29, so I'd say you've fixed it.  Thank you 🙂
