Any ideas on how to get alerts on ArcOnline Map Services when they go down?

Does anyone know of a way to get alerts on ArcOnline Map Services when they go down?

Currently, we find that when our Map Services go down we don't know until someone says something. Does anyone know of a way or even a script to allow for alerts of any form to be sent when a map service goes down?

You could have a script pinging a simple REST query to your service every x minutes, just an idea as there may be  a much better alternatives.

Thank you sadly, I have tried this, and since technically the service I guess is running but not showing any data, and needs to be rebooted no alert is sent.
