Greetings!

Since this morning, the option to open a map in Explorer Online is gone, and I can only open it in Map Viewer or ArcMap 10.0.
The explorer option was there yesterday, and it worked fine. I tested 5 computers today to make sure it's not a computer issue, and the problem occurred on every single one of them.
I know that i can go to http://www.arcgis.com/explorer/ and open the maps from there, but it will be a hassle to explain that to a few dozen of our users.
Does anybody know what's happening here? Is this a temporary issue or will it be permanent?

Thanks!

Marc

The Parcel Viewer is not the solution we are providing in response to predefined queries created in Explorer Online, it is just another option you can use at this time to query data from a service.

ArcGIS Explorer Online is still available on the web, for workflows that require the use of predefined queries authored in Explorer Online and used in Explorer or in the ArcGIS for iOS or Android applications.

For several technology reasons we are making these changes, and will be providing a better workflow to author queries and consume them in all the applications in a future release. Until this option is available I would encourage you to bookmark http://www.arcgis.com/explorer in your browser, so you can continue to create predefined queries to use as needed.
*Please note you cannot open web maps recently created with the Map Viewer, but can author new or modify existing.

Another option available now for searching features is to create and host an ArcGIS for Server Geocode Service that contains locators built off your feature classes and adding it to your Organization. You can try an example of this that I have here by searching on 'Jack Nicklaus Tribute Sculpture' as suggested in the search box. Please visit the online help for more information on adding your custom geocoder.

We do understand the importance of the application and functionality to you, and is why we are making these changes to help you build sustainable solutions that will work in all the available applications.

Thank you,
Andrew

We are in the same boat if it is any consolation.

There was an update made to ArcGIS Online last night, and as part of that update the 'Open in Explorer Online' option was removed. You can read about the other updates made at the following link:

Didn't see anything in the literature about the reason for the ArcGIS Explorer option being gone...Is there a solution other than having to user the AGOL explorer link?

Thanks for your answer Steve.
So this is a permanent thing then? If so, then that's really too bad. How would you add a query to a map viewer map then, or any of the other features that were available with Explorer Online? Is there a specific reason why this option was removed, and, will it be available with a subscription?

Hi Marc,

In the ArcGIS.com Map Viewer, you can now open the table and also create Filters. These filters are much like the queries that are available in Explorer Online. Check out this help topic for more on Filters:

Will this option still be available with a subscription account. I don't understand why it was removed, what are the reasons behind it?

Thanks!

This is too bad. I am working with first & second graders using the dashboard function for a school project. They have entered all thier family history and used the dashboard to sumerize thier data. Is there any other tools they can use to accomplish this?
