Greetings!

Since this morning, the option to open a map in Explorer Online is gone, and I can only open it in Map Viewer or ArcMap 10.0.
The explorer option was there yesterday, and it worked fine. I tested 5 computers today to make sure it's not a computer issue, and the problem occurred on every single one of them.
I know that i can go to http://www.arcgis.com/explorer/ and open the maps from there, but it will be a hassle to explain that to a few dozen of our users.
Does anybody know what's happening here? Is this a temporary issue or will it be permanent?

Thanks!

Marc

We were scrambling to come up with a good useable alternative to the queries with filters and multiple layers. Thank you for restoring the choice. ArcGIS Explorer online is a good product and needs to stay.

Thank you the kids love playing on the maps. With Explorer Online we can utilize the dashboard to show them the data in different formats. We need all the online tools since I can't install any programs on the school computers. (Just a Volunteer)

Here we are, a year later and ESRI has made the decision to retire Explorer Online for good.  While it is still possible to view maps in EO (at least for the next couple of months) I'm not happy about this decision.  The one reason we prefer using EO is the capability to query your map service.  I was under the impression this feature would be added to the basic ArcGIS.com map viewer before EO was retired.  I've even tried several of the configurable application templates and none of them seem to offer this capability out of the box.  Any idea if this is ever going to happen?

Wait, what's going on here?  Where did ArcGIS Online Explorer Link go?  How can we do easy predefined queries now?  I am putting away the easy button that I've found in ArcGIS Online this morning and bringing out the panic button!

Hi Aaron,

We understand the workflow and need to create predefined queries in Explorer Online, and will be adding it to the Map Viewer in a future release. You can continue to use Explorer to create queries by visiting the following URL http://www.arcgis.com/explorer/

The application will not be pulled off the web until this capability is replaced.

Thank you,
Andrew

Our users will mostly miss the robust feature editing toolset built into ArcGIS Explorer Online, some of which has never been available in the ArcGIS.com map viewer (see attached).  With the retirement of Explorer Online, we have lost functionality and are taking a step back in the user experience.

But, hey, if you want to make a Story Map, you??re set.

I just got off the phone with ESRI tech support and the suggested workaround was to start using the parcel viewer app template instead of the ArcGIS App for iOs that we have deployed to all our field crews.  I'd rather not change everything up here and I really don't want to republish everything to feature services (as they said was required to get the queries to work with the parcel viewer app), but we've got to have the predefined searches in the ArcGIS app.  Am I hearing that if we hang tight, we will be able to create these in the basic arcgis.com map?  I still can access the existing maps and queries in explorer online (good) but I saved a map this morning in arcGIS.com and when I tried to open it in Explorer, I got error message "Unsupported webmap version number (1.9.1).  Is the solution to not edit/save maps in arcgis.com for now?  Only use arcgis explorer to save and edit queries?  Please advise.  Thanks

Hi Lisa,

Explorer Online cannot open new web maps, so if you want to continue using the ArcGIS for iOS application with predefined queries you should start with authoring the Map in Explorer Online.

In a future release, we will have an experience on how to enable searches on layers/features that will be used across all apps mobile, web, and desktop.

Thank you,
Andrew

The parcel viewer is only an option if you need a predefine query of one source. If you need to query different data sources, the parcel view isn't a replacement for AGXO.

ESRI...it's a huge mistake your making my removing the option to open in Explorer. I realize your phasing AGXO out but isn't it obvious that your users depend on AGXO for predefined queries? You need to keep this option available until a proper replacement is offered.
