I have been working for the last week on how to upgrade a large service with relationship tables to pop-ups of internal links.
Its an old service that has been stable with pop-ups to related tables with hyperlinks to drawings and as builts.
Pop-ups failed on a certain layer with the move to Experience builder and the Map Viewer (non- classic) I have narrowed down the feature layer pop-ups to failing due to grouped symbologies on domains that have changed.
I was working on configuring pop-ups for related tables. They did not work and had blank related table pop-ups when linked. If I deleted all the tables from the initial service and added them back one by one, they were configurable.
I was in the process of doing that when this morning's decommission of Classic removed all options to relate feature layers to tables. I swear the option to relate tables to feature layers was an option to configure yesterday at 4:00 EST, and the option does not exist on any of those layers today.
Hi @KeyHunter , thanks for posting a question. Map Viewer Classic has retired in the Q1 release in ArcGIS Online (Retirement Roadmap). Web maps we previously saved using Map Viewer Classic should now open in Map Viewer.
In your workflow, you mentioned configuring pop-ups for related tables. When we add a Feature layer or Web Map (with related layers or tables) in the Map Viewer, the Pop-ups panel will show an option to configure Related Records.
Are you able to open the Web Map in Map Viewer? Are you facing any issues with configuring Related Records in Map Viewer?
The issue is that the "Related Records" option is not visible or present. It was two days ago in Map Viewer it is not as of yesterday morning. I had "Related Records" as an option for a service with a feature service and a related table that I could toggle on Tuesday. I had a service ticket in (04116887) because it was available but returned an empty related table pop-up. I had just finished troubleshooting a workaround, where I deleted all of the original tables from the cumulative service that was added, and added each table one by one.
I was in the process of bringing in each table individually and reconfiguring the pop-ups with the related records function on pop-ups. The problem is not knowing how to configure related records; the problem is related records no longer exist as an option
Wednesday - related records were an option in the map viewer I was troubleshooting on at the close of business
Thursday - I started work to complete the individual table add and reconfigure related records and related records is no longer an option.
The Thursday AGOL update and removal of Classic make configuring related tables not an option. The update broke what worked in Map Viewer.
.
Resolved
So if anyone stumbles on this. Related tables as pop-ups are only on feature services now that classic is gone. I guess it partially worked when Classic was still around as a configuration option but returned wonky results if you tried developing new related pop-ups. On 2/26/26, when we lost our dearly beloved classic viewer, the related table configuration for map services 100% disapered.
RIP Classic..... you served me well.
Add on - It appears if the feature service is large (102 layers and tables) and you bring them all in by the parent feature service (Infrastructure) and test for pop-ups, they will work. If you then start grouping them by water, sewer, storm, and what ever they lose their pop-ups. If added one at a time and then grouped, they maintain their web group pop-ups.
So to configure a layer named water main with pop ups with relationship tables in a group named Water System within a Group named Infrastructure, one must add the url for water main not the service name of Infrastructure to get the pop ups to work. Kind a a pain if your service has 102 layers and tables.
later Edit - Added a layer to test and it worked with pop-ups, I grouped it, and it worked, grouped again, and it worked. came back an hour later to test and it didn't work no pop-ups.
You beat me ESRI - White Flag for the week
Hi @KeyHunter, to help narrow down why the Related Records element isn't appearing, could you clarify a few details?
As my above note attempts to clarify, I get different testing results.
Thanks @KeyHunter Support for showing Related Records in Map Image Layer pop-ups was introduced in ArcGIS Enterprise 11.4 (see documentation). Does the Map service consist of nested sublayers that are a part of the relationship? I'd like to understand if the relationship is defined at a deeper level within the service.
In order to isolate why the pop-ups are not displaying on grouping the layers, we would need to take a closer look at the structure of the service/how the sublayers are being grouped/at which step it is no longer displaying the pop-up. I would recommend reaching out to Esri Technical Support to investigate the behavior.
I have had a ticket in for two weeks as listed in an earlier post. "I had a service ticket in (04116887) ". It seems I am ahead of support on my tests.
