ArcGIS Online provides powerful tools to build applications, but currently lacks a standardized mechanism to evaluate accessibility prior to publication.

This results in inconsistent accessibility quality across applications and increases the risk of publishing non-compliant public/member-facing content.

Proposed enhancement:

Introduce an automated accessibility checker into the application publishing workflow for applications created with tools such as StoryMaps, Dashboards, Experience Builder, and Instant Apps.

The checker would:

  • Analyze the application for accessibility issues using the latest established standards (such as WCAG)
  • Provide a score or rating indicating overall accessibility
  • Surface actionable feedback to help authors resolve issues
  • Allow authors to proceed with publishing while being aware of any remaining issues

This functionality would help authors identify and resolve accessibility issues earlier in the development process, reduce the need for rework after publishing, and promote more consistent accessibility practices across ArcGIS applications.

By integrating accessibility checks directly into the publishing workflow, ArcGIS Online can support a more proactive and scalable approach to improving accessibility.
