On Feb 4, the fifth ArcGIS Monitor User Group meeting was held. The topic was a discussion on personas that would use the data collected by ArcGIS Monitor, some key performance indicators (KPIs) for the personas, and some strategies using Monitor.

Webinar attendee submitted questions & answers:

Q1) Is there a compatibility matrix for ArcGIS Monitor and ArcGIS Enterprise versions? Can you use ArcGIS Monitor 2025.1 with ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5?
A1) ArcGIS Monitor 2025.1 works with and can collect metrics from ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.x to 12.0, inclusive.

Q2) What if I'm upgrading from ArcGIS Monitor 10.8.1 to 2025.1?  Would I still upgrade "over the top" of 10.8.1?
A2) It is not possible to upgrade from ArcGIS Monitor 10.8.x to ArcGIS Monitor 202x.x. Starting at version 2023, ArcGIS Monitor has a new and completely different architecture and deployment pattern than the 10.8.x release. You will need to “transition” to ArcGIS Monitor 202x.x, which means a brand new installation.

Q3) I have one machine where there is no ArcGIS Enterprise component, but an application is hosted in this machine. Can we add this in monitor to check CPU usage, connectivity etc.?
A3) It is possible to register a host machine that does not have any ArcGIS technology installed on it with ArcGIS Monitor. Monitor will collect metrics on the host machine such as CPU, memory, storage etc., but will not collect metrics specific to the application.

Q4) How well is ArcGIS Monitor integrated with Azure file share for the ArcGIS Data store?
A4) ArcGIS Monitor currently only supports collecting metrics for the ArcGIS Data Store (relational) used to support a hosting server. It does not currently support collecting metrics for Big Data file shares in Azure storage locations used with ArcGIS GeoAnalytics Server and/or Raster Analytics. Please submit a feature enhancement request on ArcGIS Monitor Ideas forum.

Q5) Is it possible to monitor usage and any potential performance issue with SOIs with Monitor?
A5) This is difficult to assess, as it will depend on what the Server Object Interceptor (SOI) does. SOIs by their nature are custom capabilities implemented in ArcGIS Server and we’re unable to assess how it will affect ArcGIS Monitor.

Q6) It would be beneficial to have more guidance on creating graphs especially the graphs that are displayed today.  Where can we find guidance on how to create these?
A6) We have several blogs that show how to create some of the graphs shown in this session. While they may not exactly match the analysis views in the presentation, they do provide steps on how to get started:

Q7) Do you plan to implement enhancements that would allow ArcGIS Monitor to obtain information about application usage? Specifically, details such as the number of accesses, which users are accessing, how long they used the application, among other usage-related metrics.
A7) Yes, the ArcGIS Monitor 2026.0 release will offer metrics on web app and web map usage in registered enterprise portals.

Q8) Is there documentation of the scope of professional services for the ArcGIS Monitor Jumpstart package and the Enterprise Health Check?
A8) Please review the Esri Professional Services – Enterprise Strategy page to learn more and register to get more information. Or please contact your Esri Account Manager or local Distributor.

Q9) Does Esri offer any training specifically for ArcGIS Monitor?
A9) Yes, a training webinar available on Esri Academy, Introduction to ArcGIS Monitor. Additional resources are listed in this blog, ArcGIS Monitor: Essential Resources

Q10) Do you provide evaluation licenses for new users of ArcGIS Monitor?
A10) It is possible to get an ArcGIS Monitor evaluation license, please contact your Esri Account Manager or local Distributor to learn more.

Q11) I'm also wondering if/when there will be more integration of ArcGIS Monitor with ArcGIS Enterprise, specifically for authentication (i.e., I want to be able to login to Monitor using my Portal for ArcGIS SSO-enabled account)
A11) There are no plans to integrate ArcGIS Monitor logins with Portal for ArcGIS (e.g., enterprise portal) logins. ArcGIS Monitor logins are purposely separate and independent from Portal for ArcGIS logins, because the former is meant to observe and collect data on the latter.

If ArcGIS Monitor logins were using (i.e., dependent) Portal for ArcGIS logins, then if Portal were to become unavailable, it would also affect Monitor. This is not a best practice; the observability solution should be independent from the enterprise asset(s) it is monitoring.

If you want a SSO user experience for ArcGIS Monitor, please vote for this feature enhancement on Esri Community: ArcGIS Monitor Ideas – Support AD or LDAPs identity stores

Q12) Do ArcGIS Monitor upgrades to a point release preserve my existing config?
A12) Yes, when you upgrade ArcGIS Monitor (regardless if it is a point release) to a later release, the Monitor instance configuration is preserved.

If you submitted a question and do not see a response, it's likely because your question was very scenario specific and/or required more information. We encourage you to contact Esri Technical Support for further help on answering your technical issue(s).
