Hello,

I have arcgis pro 3.5.1 and arcgis online as well as network analyst license and other licenses. I am trying to find the correct sources. where can I find household count (neighbors) and which one is it? I went to census and living atlas but not so clear. Which tool is to process 10 mins buffer from park (point) location and what are calculations? I am assumed 100% total household in the whole city boundary and focus 10 mins buffer household # from each park? Please advise. Thank you so much. Percent of neighbors that live within a 10-minute walk of a park

Hello,

It sounds like you need counts of households at the block level, so I would use this layer<> from the 2020 census, and use occupied housing units (H0010002) as your count of households. As far as your workflow, you could do it all in ArcGIS Online: first create 10 minute walksheds from each park (using the Generate Travel Areas tool) (referenced in this blog post<>), then summarize the occupied housing units (households) within those in order to get the # of households w/in a 10-minute walk. As far as your denominator, summarize the occupied households in the whole study area. Hope this helps!

Hello @DianaLavery1

Thank you so much for your reply. Do we have it recently than 2020? Maybe ACS or other source and which field? Please kindly let me know.

Hi,

Yes, we have the most recent vintage of ACS (2019-2023) down to census tract level, if that works for your project. We have it available in both boundaries<> (polygons) and centroids<> (points), points work well for aggregation purposes. The field for total households is 25009_001E.

Hello @DianaLavery1

total households is 25009_001E is only for centroids (points)?
Is this specific "ACS Housing Units Occupancy Variables - Boundaries" layer for this field "occupied housing units" field B25002_002E ? Please clarify.

Hi,

Yes, on the Housing Units Occupancy Variables, the field you're looking for is B25002_002E (occupied housing units aka households). If you want to use a layer with more context on households, I recommend Household Size Variables, in which case the field to use is B25009_001E.
