Add a filter option in ArcGIS Living Atlas to filter basemaps that are deprecated or in mature support

Thank you!

Hi Sara,

Thanks for your question. Generally, items that are marked "deprecated" are automatically removed from ArcGIS Living Atlas.

To find mature support basemaps, the easiest way is to search the Living Atlas website (www.livingatlas.arcgis.com). You can narrow down basemaps by choosing the Basemaps category, and then type in the search phrase "mature support" to narrow down to these specific items.

Here is the url for this example for easy reference: https://livingatlas.arcgis.com/en/browse/?q=mature%20support#q=mature+support&d=2&categories=Basemap...

A similar approach should also work when searching within ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro.

@LisaBerry I'm interested in a filter because I want to remove the ones that are in mature support! I want to avoid anything that is in mature support so I can make projects as sustainable as possible.

Thank you!

Sara,

We are looking at this idea from a couple of perspectives. When creating a new map or app, it's good to know if any are in "Mature Support" lifecycle stage. It's also useful to know if anything you've already created is using a layer or map that is now in "Mature Support" stage.

An item can be in "Mature Support" lifecycle stage for a period of time before being marked "Deprecated" for various reasons. It can as straightforward as the item is no longer being updated, and we need to let people know that. In some cases, that time period also lets us advertise any recommended replacement items, if available.

Certainly when you are searching, you may prefer to exclude certain items. For this you can add this string to any search to exclude items that mention "mature support" in their item description:

-description:"mature support"

Example:

All basemap category items that do not have "mature support" in their Description

We are working on a solution where items owned by Esri and documented in the Description to be in "mature support" lifecycle stage also get categorized that way on the item itself. Open this example item and scroll down on the right side to see "Mature Support" under Categories section. Once we have this fully implemented on Living Atlas content items published by Esri, options for filters look stronger than a text search approach.

But the text search approach does what you asked for in terms of what's in Living Atlas today, whether you are looking to find Mature Support items or exclude them from a search.
