Hi,

We changed the owner ship of the Instant App and now it is not accessible anymore, giving us this error: Could not load an item to display. Configure your app to select an item to display

Webmap and underlying layers are now owned by new owner.

Sometimes when you transfer ownership of an Instant App, the app configuration may still reference the original owner's item IDs (e.g., web maps, scenes, or layers).

Try these steps:

Verify Item Access
Ensure the new owner has full access to:

  • The web map or web scene used in the app.
  • All underlying layers and services.
  • Any media or supporting files referenced in the app.

Reconfigure the App

  • Open the Instant App as the new owner and Configure the app.
  • Go to the Map tab in the Instant app.
  • Re-select the web map or scene manually to refresh the reference.
  • Save and republish the app.

Check Sharing Settings

  • Make sure the app and all referenced items are shared with the same audience (e.g., organization or public).
  • If the app is public but the web map is private, the app will fail to load.

Use the “Change Ownership” Tool

  • If you haven’t already, use the ArcGIS Online or Enterprise Portal’s built-in Change Owner tool to transfer ownership. This ensures dependencies are preserved where possible. Here’s how
