Feature service which has no datasets?

I have been having some issues with open data lately.

I am using a map service from my own ArcGIS Server.  I added items for each layer of the map service as individual items in AGOL as an item from the web with the service url for each layer.  I then shared the items (which are public) with my open data group which is Public and designated as available for use in Open Data.

In my open data site (which is currently Private for testing), I then added this group in the Manage Data tab.

A couple of weeks ago, this worked fine and all the data was showing properly.  But now when I view the Data Report, it says “feature service which has no datasets” and in the Manage Sites page, it lists that the Open Data site has items but Datasets are n/a even though when I view the items in AGOL or query the layers in the map service, they work fine.

Has anyone else seen this issue lately or know what the problem/solution is?  Is this related to the recent update?  FYI – AGOL hosted services work just fine.

Thank you!

It is shared to the public.  But yes, I see now that I must be signed in to see it.  Here is the same item, but with just the www.arcgis.com domain.

Was the item public before, when you were having issues with it? I ask because to show up in Open Data, items must be shared with the public and to an Open Data group.

It was public when the issues occurred.  All of the items I have tried have been shared to the pubic and shared to an open data group.

I have used other organizations map services in the same manner and those have worked, which made me believe it had something to do with the map service, not the item.

Eric, can you verify that you have your account configured to allow anonymous access? (My Organization --> Edit Settings --> Security)

Hi Tobias,

Anonymous access is currently not allowed on this site.  But because I have been able to use other organizations map services added as items with the same settings as my map services, and the other organizations map services get recognized in open data, would leave me to believe that the anonymous access is not the issue, but maybe I am missing something.

Good point Eric.

For me it took more than 24hrs or so for the "Datasets" to show up. If I were you I would test the following scenario: Allow anonymous access, add a layer from a map service to open data, make the layer private and then public again (-->this triggers harvesting), and then don't touch it over the weekend (letting ArcGIS Open Data do the "Harvesting").

Update:

What I have observed is that after making the layer private and then public again, go to open data configuration website and hit the "Update Index" button in the Data Report. If you see the same behavior please post it here to a) help ESRI troubleshoot this and b) confirm that this is an generally acceptable workaround. Thanks!

Hi Tobias,

I wasn't able to try your suggestion, but I do know of organizations that do not allow anonymous access to their AGOL sites that have successful open data sites, so I am not sure if that could be the issue.  I still may give it a try this week to see if it does affect anything.

I'm having exactly the same problem as the original post. Is there a timeframe from ESRI to have this fixed?

Thanks
