A Gallery card in an ArcGIS Enterprise Site is a great way to display web maps available in ArcGIS Enterprise. Prior to 11.1, we could select a web map card from the Gallery and this would open in the Portal Map Viewer which was great. Unfortunately, it now takes us to the page below. We understand that this page can be useful for certain use cases, however, there should be a way to configure the Gallery card so that it supports 3 options for opening Maps:

  1. Default (as it works today)
  2. Map Viewer - rather than opening the page below, it should open the Map Viewer
  3. Editor - rather than opening the page below, it should open the new in 11.3 Editor

We are currently creating an item in Portal for ArcGIS for each map that points to the default map viewer URL and using the Apps gallery card to display it. This is done manually and is a bit annoying as we have lot's of web maps being created all the time.

Thanks,

Jose

This would be super useful.

I would also appreciate this.

Great idea! This feature would enhance usability and accessibility.

100% agree, the user experience when launching a web map from the 11.x sites is very different than launching Operations Dashboards or Web Apps.

At a minimum let us select if we want this wrapped preview or just to open in our default Map Viewer.  Have been forced to implement web app overlays to pin to the site as the process to open in map viewer was proving difficult for the less technical site users.

The same annyoing behavior applies to sites, if I want to open another site from a gallery. First, it displays the descriptive page and from there, I have to go to its item page in the portal before I can actually open the other site I want to link to. Now I have to create a different type of link, but it would be nice to group it into a gallery along with other web apps that work as desired.

Yes, I agree this should be considered. It is cumbersome to instead have to set up cards and edit in HTML just to get a webmap to open in Map Viewer.

Seems silly this still isn't implemented as of Feb 2025. This is absolutely necessary, and is likely not a hard fix.
