This is a discussion thread opened for users, distributors, and especially attendees of the 2023 Esri User Conference to post questions following our technical workshop ArcGIS GeoEvent Server: Best Practices.
John Fry and I will monitor this thread throughout the summer to follow-up with answers to questions
related to our technical workshop presentation. If you have a "Best Practices" type of question, please
post it as a reply in this thread.
Previous presentations for most technical workshops are available from the https://mediaspace.esri.com site. The 2022 UC presentation for GeoEvent Server Best Practices is currently available for review. Questions and comments from either presentation are welcome on this thread.
Not a question, but an observation from some recent work I've been doing in GeoEvent Server. If your Track_ID is a string field, and you want to do some field enrichment, in order for the join to a feature class to be successful you need to ensure that every feature layer involved in that operation has that field indexed. There is no such restriction if the Track_ID is numeric, but joins on strings consistently fail without an index. So Best Practice - use a numeric Track_ID, or if absolutely necessary to use a string, then make sure you index it.
