I have installed ArcGIS 10 deskstop on a machine and proceed to install ArcGIS 10 mobile on the same machine which already had VS2008 sp1. When I tried to do a mobile walkthrough  I notice the ArcGIS mobile control ( and the WPF toolkit) were not showing in VS.

Any clues?

Also, I do not have the WPF Toolkit from Codeplex installed.  Am I suppose to?

Not sure. ESRI support is checking to see if codeplex WPF toolkit is needed and if so what version. As soon as I get an answer I will post it here on the forum.

Hi,
I do have the WPF toolkit because I use the datagrid control but it is not required. But doesn't hurt to try.
And to get going- you can manually type in the tags for the controls you need. Here is an example to add the map control

<my:Map Margin="12,84,9,8" Name="map1" xmlns:my="clr-namespace:ESRI.ArcGIS.Mobile.WPF;assembly=ESRI.ArcGIS.Mobile"/>

Unfortunately I can't manually type the tags because the ESRI Mobile assemblies don't even show up as registered in my GAC.

Angel - Did you look in your GAC (C:\WINDOWS\assembly) to see if the ESRI.ArcGIS.Mobile assembly (or assemblies - maybe there should be more than 1, not sure) is there? It is not listed in mine, and I'm pretty sure this is related to the issue, if not the direct cause.

David,

ESRI.ArcGIS.Mobile assembly is not installed in my GAC. I am still waiting on ESRI regarding the WPF.  My guest is that a version for the codeplex WPF toolkit needs to be install first but their is no mention of this in the install instruction. Will keep you posted.

Angel - Thanks for the quick replies and the good information.  Sounds like we have the exact same problem/situation.

Here is ESRI solution. The WPF Toolkit is a prerequisite for using ESRI WPF mobile tools. In addition after installing the WPF Toolkit from codeplex you must manually add ESRI WPF mobile tools to the WPF Toolkit section in VS.

After installing the codeplex Toolkit ( I used Feb. 2010 release) open or create a WPF application in VS. Expand the WPF Toolkit section in the toolbox and right click somewhere in the WPF Toolkit section and click on "Choose Items..." from the menu that pops up. Then select the "WPF Components" tab from the "Choose Toolbox Items" dialog box. Sort the Namespaces and select the five listing for ESRI.ArcGIS.Mobile.WPF" and click OK. The tools should now appear in your toolbox.

Hopefully the next version of ArcMobile will be less painful when installing the WPF.

I installed the WPF Toolkit this afternoon, and yes that did the trick.  I can now use the WPF controls.

Thanks for posting the solution.

Hi,

I am new to this forum and i just went through this thread as it was relevent to an issue that I am facing.

The issue is when I try to open a smart phone project I do not get the ArcGIS Mobile controls in the toolbox when the frame work chosen is 3.5 but it appears when i select the framework as 2.0. Any thoughts on this?

P.S. I am just begining to work on this so I may not be aware of any compatibility issues which may have already been discussed here.
