Cluster Summary aggregates color fields by average only

I added population data summarized as "sum" to the Color data field.
This has a relationship with post codes data which is added to the Location field.
On clustering I expect Cluster Summary to add up the population data. It instead does an average of all the points.
Is there a way to make the Cluster Summary "sum" the points rather than do an average?
