Connection to an ArcGIS Server has fallen off

Hi Guys, Wondering if someone could please help me troubleshoot an ArcGIS Server connection. I don't have AutoCAD and one of our users has had his connection drop off.

I'd greatly appreciate if you could reply with What AutoCAD\Civil 3D version and whether you were able to connect.

​Terry, I don't have AutoCAD either, but I get a "Error: Internal server error" when trying thru ArcCatalog.  You may want to check the path and make sure you can access it thru catalog and/or the rest endpoint before you throw AutoCAD into the mix.  Maybe the name of the server or web adaptor changed?  Is this your ArcGIS Server or another agency?

Hi Rebecca, Thanks for replying and trying this out for me

The server is ours and sits within our DMZ. We haven't changed the Server name or the Webadaptor.

This particular user is external to our organisation and so is coming in from outside, and does not have ArcGIS software other than the ArcGIS for AutoCAD plugin. He has been able to connect in the past, and I'm leaning toward some sort of proxy or firewall issue. But just trying to see if I can get some more info before going to our tech support.

Interesting that you could not connect from ArcCatalog. I have been able to successfully connect to the ArcGIS Server via ArcCatalog from a 3g mobile wifi hotspot no problem (external to our organisation) using this http://www.topofthesouthmaps.co.nz/arcgis

But I can't connect via ArcCatalog by referencing port 6080 as suggested in the ArcCatalog connection tip http://www.topofthesouthmaps.co.nz:6080/arcgis

The rest services directory http://www.topofthesouthmaps.co.nz/arcgis/rest/services seems to work ok for me too.

This time I was ,both thru ArcCatalog and the rest services link.  This is a different machine than I tried the first time.  I'll go check that one out too.

As for the :6080 reference.....use your server-name:6080  not the URL.

So, the rest endpoint must have a typo in the first post  ( http://www.topofthesouthmaps.co.nz/arcgis/services )

didn't work...  missing "rest" vs the second           http://www.topofthesouthmaps.co.nz/arcgis/rest/services    (took me awhile to get the good one to print)  which worked.

This second one, less the /rest/services also working in ArcCatalog now

both of these tests worked on the machines that didn't work earlier, so I would check your connection again (that is, make sure it is typed correctly)

First, thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing the URL.  That was tremendously helpful.

When ArcGIS for AutoCAD encounters a bad service, it should simply skip it and move on to the next.  However, it isn't.  It is reporting that the entire connection is bad.

Since you provided the URL, I was quickly able to locate the problem and fix the code so it behaves correctly.  Unfortunately, that doesn't really help you since the update will only be available in the next release of the software.

I can tell you that the problem service is NelsonWaterCatchments.  I'm only guessing, but I bet there is a problem with the connection to the SDE datasource.  You can see the problem from the rest endpoint:

We can confirm we have stopped the service and the user has been able to connect!
