I am currently working on a project where I am drafting polygons (as closed polylines) in AutoCAD 2015, using ArcGIS for AutoCAD to create a feature class out of these new polygons, then using ArcGIS to open the CAD-built feature class and converting them into a geodatabase. However, the CAD-created feature classes do not show up in ArcGIS unless I first save the DWG file back into 2010 format or earlier. Would anyone happen to know why this is the case?

What version of ArcGIS are you using?

Aha!  That explains it.

ArcGIS 10.0 was released in December of 1999...long before AutoCAD 2015 was released.  ArcGIS 10.0 does support through AutoCAD 2014, which is why it works correctly for you if you save it to 2013 format.

More recent versions of ArcGIS do support the newer AutoCAD formats.

1999 seems a bit too long ago - perhaps 2009 or 2010? To clarify, the 2013 AutoCAD format was the one that did not work with ArcGIS 10.0, but 2010 and 2007 seem to work fine, though. In any case, the CAD/GIS version mismatch makes sense, the work-around is simple, and I only need to make such transfers once in a rare while. Thank you!
