We have a map in Field Maps with a polygon layer and geofences built around them with location alerts. Up until early last week (week of 9/29/2025), everything would load and work well, albeit a bit slowly.
The map areas include an online version and several offline maps due to many of our users being in remote locations. While the offline maps are working, it is now impossible to open the online map. Choosing the online map brings you to the screen asking the enable Location Alerts, which spins indefinitely. Then backing out prompts an "Unable to Open" message stating that geofences could not be loaded. Below is also a snippet from the logs.
Nothing has changed regarding the hosted feature layers being fed into the map. Nothing was changed in the base web map or field maps. The only noted difference is that Field Maps has updated. The version on my device is on 25.2.1 and the Enterprise portal is 11.4.
I have tried deleting and remaking the geofences, different combinations of setting in Field Maps, making an edit to the web map and resaving, removing and reinstalling the application, and no luck. there has been no change to the layer sharing properties, and this was also checked.
Hi @KelseyMills , can you expand on your Geofence setup in your Web Map? Do you have geofences on multiple layers? Buffers or filters on the Geofences? How many features are in the Geofence layers? Thousands of features can certainly impact performance but I would not expect it to hang in the way you mentioned. Do you have any expressions in the Geofence messages
Are you able to share you complete Troubleshooting logs with me? It can be via DM if you do not want to share them here. Thanks!
Hi @ColinLawrence ,
The web map contains a total of four layers, and an offline enabled base map. One of those layers was created by buffering certain buildings and contains a couple thousand polygon features. The number of features does impact speed, but this is minimal. This is the only layer which the geofences are based on.
In field maps designer, there are 2 geofences set up with location alerts on the polygon layer. Geofence 1 has no buffer and sends a location alert on features where an expression is met. Geofence 2 does have a buffer and sends a location alert when the same expression is met.
The expression in question is set up as ‘field1 is equal to X OR field1 is equal to Y’
Thanks for the assistance, I am happy to communicate logs via DM
