I spent some time yesterday editing a handful of layers in a map Field Maps Designer online, adding conditional visibility to many fields, reordering fields and adding domains to fields. I saved each the layers each time I was done making my edits for each particular layer.
I'm now looking at the map in the Field Maps app, and noticed none of my edits saved. I did delete the map for AGOL and reuploaded the map, but I feel like if I were editing in the deleted map, there would have been a warning, but I also I remember refreshing the Field Maps Designer before going into the newly uploaded map. I also work between Field Maps Designer to AGOL when making edits to the map, I'm not sure if this would cause the edits to not save properly.
I feel like I have had this happen to me before, and was curious if anyone else has had this happen to them. I could chalk it up to being user error, but in the case that other people are experiencing this, I would feel a bit more relieved.
Thanks!

When you're editing the map, layers, and form in Field Maps Designer, do not simultaneously edit them in a separate browser tab. Editing the map, layers, and form across multiple tabs will result in the loss of your data.

Same thing would happen if you're editing the same map in several sessions. It doesn't reload the saves applied from page 2 back to page 1, so saving page 1 then disregards edits to page 2.
Work on one map in one browser page/tab at a time, unfortunately.

I think this is the likely culprit. Saving the web map will overwrite the json the same way saving it in Field Maps designer does (both things will alter the same json). I've gotten bitten by this before. Just make sure that you don't save the web map before saving the Field Maps designer.
Thanks for the quick response. I had a suspicion that would be what was causing the issue. I do remember saving at least a few of the layers in Field Maps Designer before making edits in Map Viewer, and none were saved. Maybe I should have refreshed Map Viewer before making separate edits within it.
It would be nice if there were a warning that would pop-up in Map Viewer, letting the user know that there are unsaved edits in Field Designer, or that some changes will be over-ridden, but that's probably a complicated thing to set up.
I'll just have to be more diligent on my end that I am refreshing and saving and double-checking more often.
