Setting Default Values in Related Tables (that are also editable when needed)

We have an app that allows us to carry out species surveys.  To do this we have a related table 'Visit' record so surveyors can record information about their visit (e.g. weather, method, visibility, fisherman disturbance etc.) before recording their species observations. For ecology surveyors, the ability to enter data quickly into any digital system is critical to encourage the move away from using pencil and waterproof notepad.

For most of these visits the values will always be the same for new visits. Method will be 'on foot', fisherman disturbance will be 'none'.  Our users can do ~10 visits to varying lochs in a day. Our users have asked if these values can be set as default when creating a new record. However, for rare occasions could they be editable to another value.

There is a ticket for a similar need: Solved: templates/default values for non-spatial tables? - Esri Community However, as pointed out, default values on related tables can`t be editable.

Could they be please?
