After installing the driver (PL-2303 USB-to-Serial) for a BU-353 (U.S. Global Sat) GPS I activated ArcGIS Explorer Build 1700. Explorer did not detect the GPS receiver when I attempted to check the box next to "Receive Signal" on the Display tab (a message box appeared stating "No GPS receiver detected).
Later, I installed the add-in "GPS for ArcGIS Explorer" and the GPS was detected with the add-in. ArcMap and other non-ESRI software also detected the GPS.
Any thoughts on why ArcGIS Explorer Build 1700 is not able to detect the GPS receiver?
