Presentation of individual layer functionality in Web App Builder's Situation Awareness widget

I am trying to recreate the functionality of the Situation Awareness widget in Experience Builder, and I've gotten halfway, in that I can successfully display the counts of different layers to the user.

In Web App Builder, different layers will show up more distinctly based on the currently selected tab/layer, and other layers are "sunk" into the background (displayed with less contrast). In the first image below, California Power Plants are the current subject matter while other layers and features (particularly the many overlapping brown dots) are "sunk" into the background. The user can then click any single power plant to see more info about it:

In this second image, when the California Lakes tab is selected, Lake features are displayed more prominently and other layers/features are "sunk" (less contrast) into the background instead. The user can then click any single lake to see more info:

However, after performing the analysis/summary in Experience Builder, there is no such distinction. The results appear really messy and no single layer can be highlighted for the user to click on and view the popups for any individual feature. When there are many layers being analyzed (as could be done in Web App Builder), all that shows up is a hot pink mess. See screenshots:

I know there is the option to change the highlight color for each layer, but that's not very useful if you have 15-20 layers, or more, that are being analyzed, and that's to say nothing about a person not even being able to distinguish 20 colors in a single map/chart. 

If I turn off highlighting, then nothing changes on the map, and I can see there are 10,570 lakes within the box/analysis, but I can't find any of them if I wanted to inspect one more closely. 

How do I tell if a Lake that is half in-half out was included in the analysis result?

So does anyone have any ideas on how I can recreate the same Situation Awareness workflow and how I can visualize the results cleanly and properly to the end user in Experience Builder?
