You configure the Pie-chart then select the drop-down for slices and go to by category, the idea is you have the option to select/use the layer symbology as the basis for the color scheme of your chart.

YES please! I have been working with charts recently and every time I had to modify things, I had to reconfigure slices again. Such a pain.
