Is there no longer a way to get a 60 day free trial of ArcMap 10.5? I can only find the option to download ArcGIS Pro?
ArcGIS Pro is frustratingly slow and glitchy.
That's all well and good if ArcGIS Pro was ready and better in every way than the previous ArcMap and ArcCatalog, but in my opinion it is not. Far from it in fact. I've used the trial but the application is extremely sluggish and frustrating to use. Opening tables takes forever, even the second or third time. Simple selections (both geographic and definition) take far longer. Sorting a small table with only about 250 records (a simple country layer) and four or five fields takes > 3 or 4 seconds on my recent Core i9 laptop with Windows 10 that isn't doing anything else. This is not only unforgivable but it's unusable!
For a supposedly "next-generation" 64-bit desktop viewer/editor this is totally unacceptable and gives me significant cause for concern about the application moving forward. It's not even like they're targeting different platforms and have to worry about cross-compatibility, so you have to wonder just how they managed to achieve such poor performance. Is it written in Java?
Sorry guys, but if you're trying to push this out to the masses you're jumping the gun. I can see what you're trying to do with the overall design, and there are definitely some improvements, but if it's not as responsive, quick and easy to use then I'd be happier with the trusty old ArcMap (despite its own flaws) for the foreseeable future. I'll also investigate other options that are improving all the time. Maybe I'll try this "Pro" application again in another year or two. I hope for your sake you can sort it out.
