Hi everyone,
I'm very new to working with ArcGIS software, so apologies in advance if this is a basic or obvious issue — I’m just trying to get this installation working and could really use some help.
I'm trying to install ArcGIS Desktop 10.4.1 from an ISO I downloaded from Esri. The reason I’m installing this specific version is because I already have Geoconex Editor installed, which I believe uses ArcGIS Engine 10.4.1 Runtime, and I want to stay compatible.
When I run the installer for Desktop, I get the following message:
"Upgrade requirement not met. ArcGIS 10.4 for Desktop cannot be installed until the following products are upgraded to 10.4 or uninstalled."
But below that message, it doesn’t actually list any conflicting products — the box is totally blank. The help text says it applies to previous versions like 10.1, 10.2, or 10.3.1, but I don’t think I have any of those installed.
Just in case, I ran this in Command Prompt to check what ArcGIS stuff is installed:
wmic product get name, version | findstr /i "arcgis"
The only results I get are:
I’m assuming the problem is that I already have ArcGIS Engine 10.4.1, and the Desktop installer is seeing it as a conflict — even though they’re the same version. I’d like to know for sure before I start uninstalling anything.
Also worth mentioning:
I don’t see any older ArcGIS Desktop versions (like 10.1–10.3.x) in Programs & Features.
There is no “Utilities” folder in the ISO I downloaded, so I don’t have access to the ArcGIS Uninstall Utility unless it’s available separately.
I’ve tried running the installer as Administrator and cleared my temp files — no change.
My questions:
Is the install being blocked because of the 10.4.1 Engine already being installed?
Do I need to uninstall the Engine, then install Desktop, then reinstall the Engine afterward?
- If so, how can I get the Engine installer again if I need it back for Geoconex Editor?
Thanks so much for any help. I’m just learning all of this as I go, and I really appreciate your patience and advice.
