Change map layers based on selector?

Hello:
I am attempting to make a dashboard that allows you to select a county within a state and then display a bunch of variables about that county (population, disabilities, poverty, housing and both stuff). Do I need to create a different map for each variable, make a map with all of the variables as layers, or something else? I am using data from the American Community Survey. 

Essentially I want the map to change based on the variable selected. It sounds like that is a layer thing.

You should be able to use your ACS data layer and just have them filter for each variable in the layer by choosing a selector.  I have done something similar with a dashboard I created.  Just make sure in the Selector settings, under Actions, that you set up each selector filter for your specific layer.  Then when the user clicks on a Selector, your dashboard map will update based on that selector.  Once all of your Selectors are set, they should be able to filter by one selector or several selectors if they choose.
