Coded Domain in PopUp widget

How do I display the text description, rather than the integer code, in the popup window for a layer in a mapservice referenced by the viewer?  I'm using the compiled flexviewer and only work with the config xml's and widget xml's.

I think in your domains you are using integers in the Code Values. If so let the code values be the text you will want your users see. Re-publish the map service, hope this helps

That's what I was afraid of.  So, there's no way to do what I need to do by just altering the config files?  I need to get to the source code?
