Achieving "halo" effect on graphic

Hi everyone,

I'm brand new to Flex development and am in the midst of trying to develop my first application. My client has asked that I create an application that looks a lot like one of the ESRI samples, which can be found here:

I don't need the info box to popup, but my cient really likes the "halo" event that occurs on the mouseover event. Would anybody be willing to give me an idea as to how that was implemented? I'm really just looking for a push in the right direction...

That's just the link to the Flex API samples page. The one I'm looking at is under the "Feature Layer" section, and it's called "InfoWindow on Mouseover".

While I have your ear, Robert, I was going to ask. Is there any reason I should purchase FlashBuilder 4 Premium, or will the Standard version do? I'd rather pay the $249 than the $699 obviously, but if there's some specific reason I need the Premium version, I suppose I'll shell out the big bucks for it.

  As a beginning developer you can definitely get away with the standard version I did for a long time.

Thanks Robert, I think I'll just purchase the Standard version then. Did you have any ideas as to how the "halo" or outline effect was implemented on the sample I mentioned?

   Have you clicked on the source code tab in the sample? The effect is achieved by adding a mouseover event to the graphics and simply switching the symbology of the graphic.

Hi Justin,

I wanted to follow up on your thread regarding your purchase of Adobe Flex Standard versus Premium.  Did you end up buying Standard, and if so was it adequate for your needs?  Are you still using Standard and have you ever needed functionality found only in Premium?

I'm getting closer to purchasing a version and am trying to figure out what version to go with.
