Hi everyone,
I have been trying to create a 3D subsurface geological layer using the layer cake approach for the past few months. However, when I use the Extrude Between tool to extrude between the upper and lower layers, some layers end up overlapping, even though I have set lower soil layer 1 = upper soil layer 2. Logically, this should prevent any overlaps between the soil layers.
Additionally, I have encountered cases where some layers remain hollow or are not fully extruded.
Another issue I am facing is that some soil layers only appear in two boreholes (out of 12 in my dataset). However, in the other boreholes, these layers still appear with significant thickness, even though they should not exist there. To address this, I tried assigning the same depth value for both the upper and lower boundaries when a specific soil type is missing in a borehole. For example, if the SP layer does not exist in borehole 3, I set upper = 3 and lower = 3 for that soil type.
Main Issues:
Soil layers appearing where they shouldn't be – Some soil layers that only exist in certain boreholes appear in others with significant thickness, even though they shouldn't. (Fig 2, for SP layer, yellow part)
Overlapping layers – Despite using the approach lower soil layer 1 = upper soil layer 2, some layers still overlap. (Fig 1)
If anyone is willing to help, I would love to know how to resolve these issues.
Thank you, and I hope you have a great day!
