About the Course
Earth Imagery at Work is a free, instructor-led massive open online course (MOOC) offered by Esri. The course lasts six weeks and requires one to two hours of study per week. Weekly course sections consist of a video interview by the course host, hands-on case study exercises, a quiz, a class poll and discussion, and supplementary resources. Students will receive free access to Esri’s cloud-based ArcGIS Online platform and desktop software during the course. A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of the course.
When is the next offering of Earth Imagery at Work? How do I register?
The master calendar for all the MOOCs is at http://www.esri.com/mooc. Scroll to the middle of the page. You can register for the next session at http://esri.com/mooc/imagery. On the course start date you will receive an invitation to begin the course. If you register after the course start date, it may take a few days to receive your e-mail invitation.
Will I get a certificate for the MOOC?
Students who complete the course in its entirety will receive a certificate of completion.
How much do I need to know about imagery, GIS and Esri software?
The MOOC has no prerequisites, but some familiarity with imagery or GIS concepts may enhance your experience. If you’re new to GIS, you may find it helpful to go through the free Esri web course, Getting Started with GIS.
Do I need to have access to ArcGIS software?
Esri will provide access to ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro for use during the course. For the best experience, access the course through a broadband Internet connection using a supported browser. To run ArcGIS Pro, you will need access to a computer that meets these requirements; this test will determine if it does. If you do not have access to a computer that can run ArcGIS Pro, you may still take the course. In that case, you will not be able to complete some of the exercises.
Can I take the lessons at any time? Are there weekly deadlines?
You are free to work at your own pace. The course includes seven sections consisting of video lectures, exercises, quizzes, and other activities such as polls and discussions. Lesson are released weekly on Tuesdays at 12 pm Pacific Time. To plan your time, expect to spend about 1-2 hours on each section. To earn a certificate of completion, all sections must be completed within two weeks of the class end date.
How long will I have access to the content after the MOOC ends?
You will have two weeks after the course offering end date to finish the exercises in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro. After that date you will no longer be able to access ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro, or the course materials. You are welcome to register to take the course again if you are unable to complete it or simply want to work through the material again.
Will the MOOC show up in my Esri training history?
Yes. Certificates from January 2018 going forward will appear in your training history. Past MOOC certificates, from 2014-2017, will be added during 2018.
