survey Failed to export to GDB

I have a survey which contains polygon and line feature classes (collected via Collector) that are related to the main survey's points via relationship classes. Unfortunately, when I try to Export to gdb from survey123.arcgis.com, I get a Failed to export error. Does anyone know what causes this or how I can resolve the problem?

Hi, I'm kind of having the same issue but I don't get to the point of receiving an error message. The export process just goes on and on for ages and never finish. First time that happens to me. I've try within Survey web and within AGOL from the feature layer detail page but it doesn't work.

*UPDATE* the error message finally arrived overnight

I can't see why I can publish a survey, use it, sync it but not being able to export it?

I can see something weird though, the base layer is not populated (0) even if I got a point shape with data into it. There's only the tables which contain have counts. There should have something into RN_Rapport layer...

Do you mean Export Data in the survey123.arcgis.com site? (I can't see an export data option in the REST interface). If there is some other export option that I've missed, I'll be keen to try it.

EDIT:

Oh, hang on, I think you mean the Export Data option on the feature service in AGOL. The reason is that I was ignorant of this option.

Tried it just now, and it works! So thanks. This work around should do the trick for us for now.

I'd still like Survey123 (and create replica) to be fixed, but in the meantime, I now have a work around. Thanks. 🙂

EDIT AGAIN:

No, actually that fails too. The "Exporting" text appears for a while, and then disappears. If I then go to the location where the new fGDB was supposed to be saved it is there, and I can download it (which is why I thought it worked), but the downloaded zip file is only 189 bytes, and cannot be unzipped.

Hi,

Can I ask why you are using the createReplica workflow, rather than the ExportData? This sounds like an issue at the service, perhaps asking in the ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise (whichever is applicable) would be more appropriate?

We have this happen all the time with our surveys and have to download the file geodatabases via the workaround through the REST endpoint.

Unfortunately, I double checked and we don't have any labels longer than 255 characters. So maybe there is some other kind of bug as well?

PS. I've just found this "under consideration" bug: BUG-000113141: Exporting survey results to file geodatabase format ..

Which indicates that it's not possible to export to File Geodatabase if there are survey labels (attribute aliases?) greater than 255 characters.

However, this does not apply to our survey that we're having trouble with.

I'm having this problem with a survey that only has 9 records, but hundreds of questions (attributes).

I'm trying to use the REST/Replica work-around, but I'm having various problems getting it to work depending on the options I choose.

For all my test runs, I'm entering:

Name=TEST
Layers=0
Data Format=FILEGDB
Sync Model=none
- without this, I get the error: Create replica to FILEGDB data format is supported for "none" sync model type only.
Attachments Sync Direction=bidirectional
- without this, I get the error: CreateReplica with returnAttachments=(True) and attachmentsSyncDireciton=(none) is not supported.

I just get the error "Exporting data for layer 0 failed".

This occurs whether I have Return attachments "true" or "false".

Can anybody provide more information in how to use this Create Replica form in the case of downloading Survey123 data? Any other form items I need to change to get this to work?

Has anybody got it to work with attachments?

Even without attachments, It fails with some unexplained error. Any ideas?

How many records are you attempting to download? Does the feature class have one layer or multiple layers?

Hey Cory,

Here is the best that I can do...

GO to the details page of the hosted feature service that you are interested in downloading data from.
On this page to the right-hand side of the page will be "Details" section
Directly under the word "Details" is a Source: Feature Service and you will notice that it is a hyperlink. Click on it.
This will send you to the ArcGIS REST Services Directory.
Here you will see a lot of useful information about your survey. You will see each of the layers and related table/features if your survey has them.
Pay attention to the numbers within the "()" at the end of each layer or tables name. as this will help within the next couple of steps.
If you click on any of the names then you will brought to another page that contains the schema for each of them.
Scroll to the bottom of this page and locate the "Create Replica" at the bottom of the page and click on it.
This will lead you to a GUI that will allow you to request through the ArcGIS REST API to create and download an FGDB.
Remember the numbers after the layers in "()" as you will need them in this instances. If there is one layer that you are after, then you can enter just the number of the layer. However, if you are attempting to download the entire Hosted Feature service then you will need to enter all of the numbers. separated by a comma.
If you would adjust this dialog to look like the screen shot and click on "Create Replica", then the GUI will make a request using the REST API to create a replica with the layer(s) and any associated attachments.
The page will refresh and you will see a hyperlink at the bottom of the page. Click on that link and it will take you to another page that you will be able to download the zipped FGDB from.
I use FireFox as y web browser and in order to see if the FGDB is ready for download I have to manually refresh the web browser by clicking on the refresh button. However if you use a different browser, then you might be able to click on the refresh
Once the FGDB is ready for download, then there will be a link that you can click on and it will start the download.

Hi Mike - Is there a document of any sort or steps that you can share in regards to the workflow you descrived to produce a FGDB of a Survey123 hosted feature layer?

I am having this same issue of downloading the associated Survey123 hosted feature layer to a file geodatabase. I tried all of Whitney's options and work arounds. Any other ideas?

This is the first time that I had encountered an issue with the downloading of the FGDB from the Survey123 website, but it is definitely nice to have workarounds as just in case.

Yeah, I noticed those too. If you review my instructions, that's how I was downloading the FGDB after exporting. You were using a different method, which also works, evidently and is good to know. Notice I also linked to another solution which allows for downloading to fgdb via a python script. I've used that method too. Helpful to have various ways given that the download from Survey123 isn't always working for whatever reason. I'm happy to know it's not just my survey/data, which is failing!

Thanks for the workaround, but I am able to pull the data in the FGDB format using the REST API dialog without issues. However, to add more mystery to this thread; I found these within "My Main Content" folder today; which means the process is still being carried out int eh background, but the delivery of the data package is not working within the Survey123 or ArcGIS Online GUI programming; or something along those lines.

I almost never save the FGDB's within my AGO account and I know I did not save these here and that makes me think it is something to do with the behind the scene coding for status updating and delivering requested data package.

I can't explain why it fails sometimes in Survey123 - I'm guessing it's a bug.

I am also receiving this error, but only when selecting the File Geodatabase as an export format. I am however, able to go into the Feature Details, then into the REST page to produce a usable FGDB.

Then using the "Create Replica" at the bottom of the page allows me to pull the FGDB from the AGO website.

I get the following error, regardless of what file title or folder I use, so the error is not correct:

An existing File Geodatabase item was found with the same title, 'gobbledygook'. Please choose a unique title and try again.

Unable to export my survey to gdb via survey123.arcgis.com (see error above), I tried another way. Interestingly, I was able to successfully download the survey to gdb via the Python script referenced in this document. Has anyone had this problem before or know what causes it/how to avoid it?
