Hi everyone,
I have a surveying degree with a specialization in GIS, and I am currently working in the surveying/GIS field. My main worry is about the pathway to becoming a licensed or registered surveyor.
I am concerned that having a GIS specialization within my surveying degree may create barriers when applying for surveying registration or licensing. I would like to understand whether this type of degree is normally accepted, or whether licensing boards may require a more traditional surveying degree.
I would appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through the licensing process or has experience with surveying registration. I am especially interested in the following:
1. Whether a surveying degree with GIS specialization can be accepted for licensing
2. What barriers people have faced because of their degree structure
3. Whether extra subjects, training, or assessments may be required
4. How to prove surveying competency through work experience
5. Which professional body or registration board is best to contact for clear guidance
Any advice, experience, or resources would be very helpful.
Thank you.
