Add SVG as Background Image to ArcGIS Online

Have an SVG of a stylized background image. This will go behind my vector polygons. ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online don't seem to accept the SVG. Is there a way around this?

The reason I want to use SVG is that I've tested with rasters and they are blurry at different zoom levels in ArcGIS Online web maps.

Any ideas or workarounds?

We support uploading SVGs for point symbols when using the symbol styler on point features. We currently do not have a symbol building experience where you could add or swap out individual symbol layers for your symbol styling. If you publish the final symbol as a web style you will be able to use it in Map Viewer to style your polygons with that SVG.

@RussRoberts how do you publish an SVG to a web style? By doing this will i be able to mimic the SVG being a background layer as I had hoped? Publishing to raster is causing blurred outputs.

@RussRoberts but will this allow me to use my image as a background?

It would be a point symbol layer using a picture marker in the polygons you mentioned above to have that symbol appear there. You could then cook this as a vector tile package to tile layer if you needed and use it as a base map layer. If you were trying to change the background of the entire map to be an image that is not supported and you can only change the background color.

@russell_roberts I still cannot add SVG to Pro to the map. Full support of SVG is needed

SVG for a background will need to be a tile layer or vector tile layer that would be set as the lowest level layer in the basemap. We do not have it in the current web map spec to have an image as a background and its only supported prop is background color.

I see. How do you make SVG as a background or publish it to a tile layer?

SVG as a layer that can be published to AGOL needs to be added to the roadmap
