Why are there differences in the Bing basemaps?

If you go to the official bing maps site (https://www.bing.com/maps/?FORM=EXIPRV) you see the "Roads" basemap which has some nice building footprints. However if you go to the esri examples (VE Tile Layer) on bing they give kind of a "basic" version of this without footprints or many features at all.

Why are there differences in these basemaps and is there any way to get the official version?
