Map rendering improvement

I really like ArcMap... but to be honnest the rendering quality is pretty poor.
I don't understand why the power of the Graphic Card is not used to render more pretty maps.

There is no anti-aliasing and it's too bad. Why don't use OpenGL librairies to improve that ?
Moreover, I guess that the rendering would be faster.

Do you agree ?
