What is GeoNet?
GeoNet is a place where members of the Esri community, consisting of its customers, staff, and other workers connected with geospatial information and GIS, can connect, collaborate, and share their experiences.
What is the goal of GeoNet?
The goal of the GeoNet community is to become the central place in the online environment where its members can meet to exchange ideas, solve problems, accelerate their success, build mutual relationships, and thus help create a better world through the use of geographic information technologies. To guide you through this environment and ensure that your experiences with it are positive, productive, and fulfilling, we would like to introduce you to the following main principles of the GeoNet community.
Main principles of the GeoNet community
The main principles of this community are: "Be helpful. Be human. Be reasonable." They are closely linked with our Terms of Use for GeoNet and you can use these main principles to quickly check whether your contributions add value and support the goals of our community.
Be helpful
Being helpful means that you will always try to increase the level of communication with carefully thought-out posts while considering others. Examples of being helpful may include:
Respect others. Personal debates, personality conflicts, insults, swearing, passionate expressions, obscenities, and other deviations from our professional goals are not appropriate. As a guiding rule, you can use this: if you would not say or do something at a large public gathering, you should not say or do it in the GeoNet community either.
Avoid sensitive and provocative topics. Do not start discussions on anything that could be considered off-topic, provocative or inflammatory. For example, topics such as politics and religion are best avoided in the GeoNet community.
Answer questions. If you are an expert in some area, we encourage you to answer posts where someone asks a question in that area. If you do not know the answer, help find someone who does.
Make sure your posts relate to the communication and group you contribute to and are important for people. Always first ask yourself: "Does my note or content increase the effectiveness of this communication? Am I posting in the right group?"
If you think a post is valuable, click "like", mark it as useful or share it with others.
Welcome new members and guide them towards meaningful communication and content.
Be human
Being human means being yourself but in a professional way. An important part of collaboration is building relationships and getting to know each other mutually. Be social and share those parts of your personality that are appropriate and meaningful because this helps connect this community more closely and simply make it more human. Examples of being human may include:
Share important personal or work experiences and interests, news about goals you have achieved, praise others for well-done work, etc.
Share work experiences and moments that express your creativity, consideration, and humanity.
Make new connections. Engage in communication with people you do not yet know and create new relationships.
Be reasonable
Being reasonable means thinking carefully about your post before publishing it. If you feel even slightly uncomfortable about something in it, consider what needs to be changed, fix it, and only then publish it. Examples of being reasonable may include:
Avoid posting confidential information or anything that your colleagues, customers, clients, business partners, suppliers, vendors or other interest groups might consider offensive or aggressive.
Handle personal identification data carefully. Never send or publish birth numbers or personal document numbers, private phone numbers, addresses, credit card numbers etc.
Do not misuse GeoNet to promote your company or business in any of our discussions, advertise linked websites, domains, companies or services and do not send unsolicited messages to other members.
Content is open and public. Unless it is a private group or message, all content shared on GeoNet pages is open and public. By default posts on GeoNet pages are shared publicly and accessible within the GeoNet community as well as outside it.
Once something is published in the digital world it is there forever. Similar to emails or instant messages content and communication on GeoNet is immediately stored and preserved and will be available far into the future. Make sure long-term availability of your posts does not pose a problem for you.< /P>
Note on moderation and content control
If necessary the GeoNet community team and its moderators may review comments before publishing them or simultaneously with publishing them; those that are off-topic or violate our guidelines will be redirected, removed or prevented from publication. Please also note that these guidelines may change over time.
