Set width of parent contents pane docking window

Question

I want to be able to determine if the contents window is docked and if so set the width of its parent's container.  I would appreciate any help.

I still haven't figured this out, reading the documentation is that dockpanes can be docked in a view on left or right of the map.  I guess I want to get hold of that view and set properties.  Any suggestions?

I thought I would add a picture as my question wasn't worded too well. My process I have several docking panes that have optimal sizes and I would like to set their width when they become the active pane.
