Arc 10.5 losing records from geodatabase

Question

I just upgraded to arc 10.5.  I have a geodatabase that has 4527 records.  When I open the database it shows a record count of 4527. If I do anything (such as a sort) the record count changes to 3539.  I reopened it and selected all the records and then did  a sort and got this result
Same thing happens in catalog.  On opening the geodatabase I see all the records.  After any operation (sorting) 888 records disappear.

What is going on?? Do I need to do something to upgrade the gdb??

I tried this. It only imported the 3539 records.

Create a new file geodatabase. Import the corresponding feature classes to the newly created GDB.

I hope this will resolve the issue.

It is a file geodatabase that was created in 10.3.  It is not versioned.
