Formatting date for user input in Modelbuilder

Question

I have been trying to format the date which is in this format(2007.04) which i did through calculate value, however i tried substitute using the inline variable substitution it returns empty value when i run the model. When I run the model without the date variable it returns values. I don't know what am doing wrong because i need the user to be able to input date of their choice from the value list. Below is my model that runs good but I don't what to do with date parameter. Thanks

It's not clear what and how you are using the date. When you say your date is in the format of 2007.04 is that before or after the formatting process? If it is before what does the final format look like? Also what are you doing with this formatted date? You say you use it in inline substitution but where? Edit your question showing exactly how you are using it.
