How to select military symbol by mouse click?

Question

I am using the display of military symbols (Mil2525C) and I know that I can select one by creating a selectMessage via the MessageHelper class. But how can I select a military symbol with a mouse click? Do I have to do my own implementation or does the API provide some functionality for that?
