I have point shapefile from a GPS device. I want to add the decimal degree location to the attribute table. I used the add x,y coordinates tool and the resulting x y and z field in the attribute table contained zeros?
what type of field was created? You did this in a table for a shapefile or a featureclass and not some other format I trust. In any event, try Add Geometry Attributes—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop
if you are having problems, it offers more options on the coordinate system and other information, although
Add XY Coordinates—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop should work fine if the the field type and data type are correct and you know the coordinate system of the input data and the data frame.
