geoevent configuration backup file empty

I just checked my configuration store for GeoEvent 10.7  and saw that for the last several days, and a couple of days last week, the configuration backup file generated by the 6am job was 0kb. So although I thought our configuration was being backed up - it actually wasn't. 

1. Any idea why this would occur?

2. Any way ArcGIS can make me aware that this has occurred rather than creating a process to monitor the file size?

3. What additional configuration backup routines do people use?

I did a GeoEvent reset on Friday and reconfigured the automated configuration file backups including timing and location - I had hoped this would fix it. but the two backups done over the weekend were also 0. When I do a manual export right now it is 1492kb. What could be causing this?
