Are Story Maps Compliant with ADA requirements?

I work for a local county and everything on our website should comply with ADA requirements. Does anyone have information about whether the Story Maps are compliant. They are such a great communication device for so many people, but we may not be able to use them if the maps are not compliant.

Have you found out anything more on this elsewhere?  Our organization has received a demand letter about our overall site being out of compliance, and trying to figure out where our maps stand.  All the web resources I can find do not provide guidance on maps, only that all images should have a text equivalent, which is not always possible.
