Arcobjects insert null date java

Hi

I'm attempting to insert a null value into a date into a Feature Class using he java version of ArcObjects. The field is inserted but the value in DB is not null but -2209161600000. I need the DB to return null after the insert. Is this possible with the JAVA API?
