How can I link an existing annotation layer to polygon feature class.

Question

I have created the sad situation where I have some polygons in a file geodatabase, and an annotation feature class in a different personal geodatabase.  What would be the steps to link these annotations to the polygons to create feature linked annotations?

It may make better sense to simply recreate the feature linked annotations.
